Howdy people! Sorry I haven't reported for so long! I've been pretty busy with work and getting my mission papers in! It has took me way too long to get my papers in after I started them. I had some medical issues show up which delayed me about 5 weeks and long weeks they were. I am super excited to go soon! Can't wait to get my call. At that point this will turn into my mission blog. woooo

Mr. Gordmon Smith

So I've begun work at Gordmon's and Smith's. For those who don't know. . .oh lets face it no one reads this blog so why even explain that Gordmon's is a department store. I really don't like the fact that I'm working yet more minimum wage jobs, but I really can't seem to land anything else, especially when I have no access to a car. Anyway, I started both jobs just last week and despite their grunt nature I am trying my hardest to be the best worker I can be. I was promised that if I would give it my all the jobs would turn out much more bearable and rewarding than they otherwise would be. I definitely have been successful at Smith's. I've had compliments given to me that I'm always very happy and polite, as well as a hard worker. As a result I just find myself even happier as I work and the job is not too bad at all! Gordmon's on the other hand is a different story. I've worked as hard as I could there as well thought sometimes it has been much harder. Much of the management there is never giving recognition to the people they are working with. As a result I find myself having a harder time keeping my happy attitude about my job. The store isn't open yet so they are also probably extremely stressed with trying to get everything worked out and set up so I do have the expectation that things will improve and all will be jolly at my jobs. I won't be staying at them for too long because I hope to be leaving on an LDS mission soon, but I have been told that if I was staying longer at Smith's I would definitely not stay a bagger for too long. That says it all I feel. It really is worth it to put effort into a job even if it is a job you feel isn't all that important for a companies success.

Blessings

Well I'm not really one to share testimony, especially over the internet but i feel so inclined to share how grateful I am for a few things. Recently my dad became a bishop and my whole family's world was turned upside down. We were all worried at first of what may come of this, but soon just decided to leave it to the lord and have faith we'd be taken care of much more than we need. Well it's only been two weeks and I have to say that some serious blessings have come to me and things are just really coming together for me. I've been able too acquire two jobs since he became a bishop and they sound like they will work around each other very well. I just have to say it's the first time in a while that things have started to really go my way :)

SOPA all over that PIPA

I just wrote a letter to my congressman concerning the SOPA and PIPA bills being presented to congress. This is it's content:

"Hello Congressman Rob Bishop,

I'm writing to you today on behalf of the SOPA and PIPA acts that are before us today in Congress. I'm a college student at the University of Utah and I know the importance of the internet, I'd say more than the average person. It is of up most importance to me that we keep the the internet free by stopping these bills from passing. It won't stop pirating very well because you can still just type in the websites IP and access the websites guilty of helping the pirating of media. All it will do will cause a mess of the structure to the internet and I don't want to see that happen. As my congressman I hope that you follow what you're constituents are saying and help to assure these bills are not passed. Thank you for your time,

Taylor Gemperline"

You do realize that posting a link in this blog to a sight that might maybe be considered a pirating sight, whether it is or not, could wind up putting me in prison 5 years if these are passed? Dang.

Eulogy for Raidylan

Today my poor beta fish died. I wasn't surprised cause I noticed it stop moving around and being as active as it usually is a few weeks ago and it's about 3 years old so he lived his life full (I think, wait, how long is the average life of a beta fish?) He came into my possession in a different way than most people, in fact it all started when I was asked to a girls choice dance in high school. She didn't actually give me Raidylan, she gave me about 10 minos caught in a creek I assume, and a fish bowl along with them I might add. Well about 6 of thefish stayed alive for about three months which is definitely a record at my house for life of a fish. Then came Raidylan.

Raidylan was originally my brother beaus fish. He had begged my mom to get him a beta fish when they were at Petco or some other pet place and she caved. She put it in my bowl of fish not knowing betas are carnivorous. Dun dun dun.

Well it was a mystery to my family why the minos were disappearing. We couldn't even find their dead bodies and Raidylan grew and grew. I figured it out when there were about 3 minos left and just watched them hopelessly swim away over the next few days. Well when all my minos were dead I claimed Raidylan as my own.

He of course was not named Raidylan until about a month after I got him. I went through many names, many names, but I could not decide between two names. Raiden, cause he's super bad and basically invincible, and Dylan, cause he used to sit in my room and watch me do homework, as the fish would. From the name you can see why and what I decided on.

There were many times Raidylan should have died. The week and a half I didn't feed him while in Mexico. The time he was dropped with his tank. So many yet he continued to live. Until today

So what now. Get a new one. Maybe a crap or snail with it?

Low Tree Branch, Low Ridin

So I feel prompted to tell you about a hilarious ski incident that I'm sure has happened many times but this one which occurred at Targhee individually is the best. So Tyson, BJ and I are up at Targhee launching off the cat tracks and just generally acting like idiots. Well there is this one patch of trees where a short maybe 5 foot tunnel was formed by lower hanging branches. BJ spotted it first and decided to crouch low into a ball and shoot through it. Tyson took is turn with basically the same thing but while yelling "yeeha!" Then it was my turn. Now Tyson and BJ were on a skis and I was on a snowboard. I bent down and curled into a ball but my head was more tilted forward than the others and whack flomp flump fwap smash. owwwwwwwww I find my body completely emerged in the snow and my board sticking out. It was absolutely hilarious and BJ and Tyson were laughing pretty ridiculously hard themselves. Good Times.

Avvvvverage Joe

Average? What is average? I don't know about you but I hate being referred to as average. It's like being stuck in a large crowd of people all trying to get recognized by a person in the front offering 50 bucks to the first person to shout their name. What's the possibility of that celebrity actually taking notice of you? No one wants to be average. If you are average how do you expect to be as successful as you would like in life? How am I to get through medical school if I just stay an average college student trying to make it through classes.

I've recently been taught by a wiser man than I (meaning just about anyone out there) that you can't just settle for average. What you have to do is take a giant cone with you when you go with the crowd so you can shout out louder than the rest. Being extraordinary is going to be one of the hardest things to do, the wise man says, but in the end it will be insanely worth it. Everyday you've got to start out in the morning by setting goals and reflecting on them by the end of the day. I've decided to do this everyday, i'm only on day 3 but it's working great! It's quite empowering cause it makes you feel like you really can do anything when you go over the goals you completed that day in the afternoon. I highly suggest trying it yourself.

Shacks and Cottages.

So today my sister and I had a conversation that went much deeper and much longer than most people would care to carry on because of such a silly topic. What was this topic exactly? Well it was spurred by one question. Would you rather have a Beach Shack or a Mountain Cottage?

You want a beach shack huh? Well did you consider the insane mess the sand would make, as well as the danger of tsunami's and hurricanes? This could wipe your beach shack completely away so you will have to make major repairs every few years. Best not to put too much money into that shack. It also smells funny near beaches sometimes. Man do I HATE unpleasant scents.

I argue that a mountain cottage is greatly superior. Who doesn't love the smell of evergreens around your cottage. I have to consider that it has to be more sturdy than a beach shack though because it has to support snow fall every year. Snowfall also makes it much less accessible, and that can cause major problems with repairs as well.

Solution: Buy a cabin in the woods next to a beach.

Old Friends

So seriously, old friends are the best. Who better to talk to when you don't know who to turn to and you want something confidential. Most of my old friends . . . . all of my old friends aren't an every day part of my life right now so i know they can't spill any secrets of mine, not to mention you know you can trust them 100%. why else would they be your friend?

It can also be so refreshing to just catch up with them. It gets your mind off the sorrows of the day. If you have a friend you haven't spoken to in a while that you were close to once and you've just kinda read their facebook status here and there then you should talk to them soon and see how they are doing. It is great.

Also, try to get close enough to a current common friend that you trust and maybe they will in the future become another great old friend. boo ya

Forever

Forever ago was about the last time that I even looked at this blog. Talk about a fail. I'm in college now and I do believe the last time I posted was my Junior year in high school so what. . .3 maybe 4 years ago. Sad. Anyway I think I might start this blog back up. ya, I know, we'll see how long that lasts. I'll definitely need it for my mission and hey why not just use it in the time I have till that point. Well this is to a fresh start.

Calc Nonsense!

If you are ever in a calculus class you have to use the right language. Believe me it makes it much more fun!

When you think something awkward is happening there are a few things you can do. Don't just yell AWWWKWARRRRRRDDDDDD! you need to do it the calc way. 1. you can say it backwards : DRAWKWA! or 2. you put fresh at the end... "hey that's awkward fresh" or 3. both backwards with fresh!!!

If you ever prove someone wrong because you are a fricken evil genious and you want to throw it in their face you yell TRUTH BOMB!

If you don't know what someone asked you but you want to act like you were listening reply with .. "what?? Rubbery Bacon??"
If you find yourself knowing the correct answer but don't know how you got it and someone asks you how you got it just say that pharoh called upon the gods of pythagoras to change it and in a twinkle of a ferris wheel the answer came to be.
Follow these rules and calculus rocks!

Update on My Life

I love life.

Right now everything is perfectly kipper. Why I use the word kipper so much lately I know not why. I get to play lacrosse games every Saturday and longboard when ever I have the free time. Every day something bad still happens but it never seems to bring me down. Life is good.

We had to write a blues song in English... This was mine.

The Hatin’ Blues

Being hated is not a funny thing

It doesn’t really want to make you sing

To be hated by the right person ain’t so bad

At least I ain’t hated so bad by my dad

He was my best friend now he is more trouble than two

All he wants to do is throw me a piece of poo

I’ll tell you why he hates me so much in this little rhyme

He got with my girl so I broke up their “you’re mine”

Now he walks down the street alone as alone can be

It isn’t a wonder why he really hates me

Everyday he says he will commit suicide

He keeps on walking, guess he couldn’t find the time and lied

Chorus:

Cause he hates me… It’s his little rule

Yes he hates me… for stealing back my jewel

He hates me… Well life ain’t fair

I hope he don’t come at me with a folding chair!

:) hehehe

When I am old

I wrote this in my English 11 Honors class with Mrs. Grant. We just filled in the blanks on a worksheet and my turned out like this. Pretty funny so i thought i would post it.

When I am an old geezer I shall sit on my porch with a gun that squirts water and spray down the children and I shall act like I created the world and command people, and say they are wrong and I am right and I shall go to the movies when I am tired and make noise with my loud snoring and get my record marked and make up for the bordeom of my youth. I shall go to the mall and cause chaos in other peoples lives and sing annoying songs but maybe I ought to practice a little now? So that people who know me are not too shocked and surprised when sudddenly I am old, and startto speak my lost mind.

AP Tests are Over!

AP Tests are over! I have that feeling like it's the first day of summer! Well I did pretty darn well on the AP American Gov test, much better than I previously thought. My concern is the AP U.S. History test because the multipule choice were a bit harder than I thought and the DBQ wasn't my favorite.

Well I'm getting into lacrosse. Got my pads for $20 bucks off of Aaron. Next on the to do list is get a stick. I guess I should call my uncle up to find out what he can help me with. He owns a lacrosse store in Colorado.

Well I'm signing off.

AP Tests

Well AP tests are almost here! I have my gov test in 2 days!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Well I feel like I am right on the border of the AP American Government test so I really don't know if i'll pass it or not. For the AP US history I feel rather confident and am planning on getting an easy three if not a 4 but I doubt a 5. What is pretty funny is that my parents won't even be here over the AP tests week. Well I am way glad that they will be going away from me soon and can't wait to PARTAE when they are over!

Spring Break

Spring break was pretty much awesome! I pretty much just partied the whole time.

For the first half of it my family was down in the southern part of the state and I was left home alone. It was pretty much awesome to be on my own schedule and have a quiet house for so long. Not to mention I didn't have to ask to use the car.

I loved hanging out with my friends. It was a ton of fun to just be out of my house and doing something that was really lots of fun.

I finally got back to work after my break from it because of surgery. Though it pretty much took all the energy out of me it was still lots of fun and means more money which I am really lacking.

I guess the only thing I missed this spring break was sleeping in. That's for squares.

I wish it wouldn't end on Monday.

First Double Black

Well I was up skiing with my friend Tyson in January 2008 at the Canyons. After a few runs we made our way over to the highest lift called ninety-nine ninety. I had never been up it cause it was all double blacks but one run, which was a black. Well we get up there and we head the opposite way of the black run so I knew I could expect to be doing my first double black. I wasn't too worried because I was pretty good at a black so why couldn't I hit a double black. Well we went down the slope for about 500 ft and then Tyson goes through the gate leading to the backcountry. I say: "dude I can't go back there!" well he replied with: "well you can't seperate from me either." I figures that was good enough reason for me so I went. I got in there and found it to be very beautiful in the backcountry. Well we went up to the top of a banked corner and looked over the edge. It was about a strait hill of untouched Utah powder! To me it was the steepest thing I had ever seen! Well Tyson was like: "you first." in reply I say "no way!" well when I said this he pushed me. Ah! I completely unvoluntarily went down the hill and quickly gained control best I could and stopped. Tyson jumped over and came to me then he says: "now go on your on." I turned down hill and had my first REAL experience with great Utah powder. It gave you the absolute coolest floating feeling. Ah love it!

Targhee!!

Last year in mid February I went to Grand Targhee Ski Resort on the Grand Tetons with my friend Tyson Balling and his family. We were up there for a three day weekend and this place I heard was amazing. We would stay up there at the resort lodging and ski every second we had the chance. Well we are taking about four car loads of people up and I got in the truck with my friend Tyson his brother with his fiance and his cousin. On the six or seven hour drive up there we listened to every rock song we could get through and ate a ton of candy. Now being teenage boys in a car alone on a highway in Idaho with no other cars on it and it being -11F outside we came up with an idea. (I bet everyone reading this right now is like Uh-Oh this doesn't sound good) We took off our shirts and we did something very bad. We had a stick your body out the window at 80mph in -11F weather the longest contest! Woot! Well Tyson totally won that.
We got up to the resort and first thing I noticed was that while walking up the walkway I couldn't see anything because the snow was over my head (shut up all of you thinking "that's cause your so darn short"). Another thing I found out of the ordinary was that there wasn't just snow on the tops of branches but the snow completely ate the tree so it just looked like a white verion of thos termite columns they have in Africa. Well we got settled in and learned our way around and we jumped in the snow in swimsuits then jumped in the hot tub and did crazy stupid things like that.

Well that night it snowed like 2ft. That day I learned what real powder was and went on the steepest slope i've been on so far. It was a blast! One time we went went over to the Sasquatch Lift and found a nice giant (giant to me) cliff. Well Tyson was like "holy crap I have to hit that!" I thought he was joking but sure enough we went back up and he went off. A few runs later we go into the backcountry. Tyson stops me about half way down the slope and says that there is a cliff right below me. I see them go off of it and I surely didn't want to do it myself. I kinda find my own way down but after a few runs I finally go off of it.

One time we were skiing and I got seperated from my group. After skiing around and being confused as to where I was I finally found them going up the lift as I went down. Well they waited at the top of the lift and I finally made it up to them. When I got up we realized a nasty fog was rolling in. Well remember how I said the trees were completely white earlier? Well that combined with the snow and the fog being white made it so I couldn't see my own hand when I put it up to my goggles. Tyson yelled as he skied so I could follow his voice and it was ridiculously fun sowboarding blind. Every few hundred feet one of the yells would go something like this :" weeeeeeeeeeeee OW! weeeeeeeeeeeee OW!" because we kept running into trees and thins. haha good times.

On the Sunday we didn't snowboard. One reason because we wanted to keep the sabbath day holy. Second reason because the hot pockets we had that morning were bad and 8 of us, including me, got food poissioning. haha oh well I guess that happens.

One time we were determined to take the jumps in the park. The problem with these jumps was that there was no kick and the landing was too far away. After trying over and over Tyson finally made a perfect run of the four jumps. Problem was that on the fourth he overshot the landing by at least 30ft. He hit the ground and just laid there. We rushed to his aid and he just sat there singing. He was like "That was totally AWESOME!" He tried to get up but then fainted. He had a pretty bad concussion but after laying there for about thiry minutes we were back and good to go.

Another time we were skiing along all causal like when we found this little tunnel created by trees. Tyson zips through it nice. BJ zips through without harm. Me being the only snowboarder and not able to get down as much zip through it, get clothes lined and do a backflip into the powder. Tyson yells "You okay man!" I role over lean against a tree and yell "I'm OK!" we got it all on camera.

These are just a few of the fun moments we had in Targhee. I may write about other accounts I can remember later. All I can say is that that place ROCKS!

Bouncing Back

The ending of my sad story of how I broke my arm.

Well the time finally came to get my pins pulled out of my arm and my bump off. I got to the doctors and he told me that according to the X-ray, it was okay to pull the pins out. Well he took off the bandage and began twisting and yanking away at the pins. It was quite a strange experience. He didn't numb it or anything and yet most of them didn't hurt at all. Some came out nice. One came out so well I didn't know he pulled it. Some came out hard. The last one he pulled just wouldn't come out. This same pin was the only one of the seven that hurt, and it didn't just hurt it was extremely painful. When it wouldn't come out the doctor asked the nurse for pliers. AH! He was going to rip it out with pliers! Well the second he grabbed the pin with the pliers it sent a vibration through the pin into my bone. It was the STRANGEST feeling I ever had. Then after a few painful minutes of yanking and pulling it came out and I was done.
I was fit into a smaller bump and given the pins as a souvenir. On my way home my mom said it was hilarious to watch the doctors face as he pulled out my pins. She said: "He looked like a mad scientist, like he really loved ripping that pin out of you with pliers." It made me laugh and wish I had a picture.
The next day we called up Brandon Arrington at Farmington Physical Therapy to rehabilitate my arm. The guys one of the nicest guys (other than the fact that he likes to hurt me :)) i've ever met. He gave me a pully system and I began working on my arm. After a month of proggress that wasn't proggressing enough I was perscribed a Dynasplint. This is a machine that pulls my arm back, stretching it for 30 min. Not Fun.
I also got back to school after being absent for 4 1/2 weeks. I had all F's as you would imagine and had a lot to make up. All the teachers I found are very kind when you go through surgery. I worked hard and by the end of the term came out with a 3.8.

Well now I continue to go through therapy and am slowly proggressing. Hopefully I will be good enough to do some extreme things again this spring and summer. Moral of the story - 1. Just keep pushing 2. Know about a jump you hit before you hit it. 3. (For Trevor) Ski patrol doctors are idiots that don't know anything.
